Emergency Procedures

This Web site provides information to the Texas State community about how to respond to a variety of emergency situations that could occur on campus.

Texas State believes strongly in protecting the health, safety and welfare of its students, faculty and staff. To do so in emergencies requires preparation, so we invite you to visit these pages often and familiarize yourself with appropriate emergency procedures.

The university uses several methods to communicate information in the event of an emergency. These include:

·         TXState Alert System

·         Twitter for UPD! @TXStateUPD

·         Twitter for OoEM! @TXStateOoEM

·         Facebook UPD! Texas State University Police

·         Facebook OoEM! Texas State Univ. Office of Emergency Management

·         RSS! TXST Emergency Notification Channel

·         The university home page at www.txstate.edu

·         Alertus Desktop Notification System

·         E-mail from UPD, UNS or OoEM to all students, faculty and staff

·         Messages recorded on the university news hotline at (512) 245-2424

·         Voicemail messages sent to all campus telephones

·         Local media announcements

·         Texas State weather emergency siren system

·         Emergency sign board system

·         Reverse 911

Texas State University will, in a prompt manner, and taking into account the safety of the community, determine the content of the notification and initiate appropriate notification, unless issuing a notification will, in the professional judgment of responsible authorities, compromise efforts to assist a victim or contain, respond or otherwise mitigate the emergency.  Not all methods listed above will be used in an emergency, such decision is based on the total circumstances present at the time a message is sent.

The Web pages linked at the left provide important emergency contacts as well as information about how to best respond to specific situations.
